@Hayato Kagayama 6

On the day Hayato was sentenced for execution, his wife, Mary, and their three children bemoaned the fact that they had to remain alive. They clung to Hayato, and wept.  Diego Kagayama Hayato scolded Mary and one of their children, Rusia, urging them to remember that it was not a time for tears, but a time for joy.

Hayato then knelt down in front of the cross and prayed for a long time.  He concluded his prayer, commending himself and the family, he was leaving behind, to God.  He then exchanged a parting cup of sake with his family and went to stand before the guard.  He was dressed in festive attire, normally worn but only on New Yearfs eve, and a special robe given to him by Father Gregorio Cespedes.  He was taken to the execution ground, not far from Ogura Castle where Tadaoki lived, in a small ship.

Diego used his time on the ship to talk to his fellow passengers that the only way to salvation was through Jesus Christ.  He made a profession of faith, declaring that even if Christians were persecuted today, peace would return and the gospel of Christ would bear fruit.  He then knelt down in solitary prayer.
